One of the biggest things you should eliminate from your budget if you want more money in your life, is eating out all the time.

Once in a while is fine but a lot of people don’t just do it once in a while.

It is one of the most popular things to do in our culture, with good reason, the food usually tastes good and you don’t have to cook it.

But what most people don’t realize is you are still wasting time on that meal because after all time is money.

If you get paid $12 dollars an hour and you bought a $24 dollar meal, you basically ate two hours of your life in the time it took you to finish your food.

If you just cooked at home, yes maybe you might still spend an hour or two cooking it, but you are honing a skill (cooking) and you are saving money (which is equal to time) as well.

Here are some of the exact ways eating out is keeping you poor…

The Simple Math Of Eating Out

Let’s say you buy lunch Monday through Friday for a whole year, instead of taking lunch to work.

The average person spends $10 on a fast food meal.

If you are spending $10 a meal for a week, then that is $50 a week you are spending.

So how much are we spending a year?

There are 52 weeks in a year so that’s $50 x 52 is $2600!

Maybe this isn’t a huge number to you but keep in mind this doesn’t count the times you also go to a dine-in restaurant that night and spend even more money.

And it also doesn’t include the food you buy at the grocery that you let expire because you’re eating fast food instead of cooking.

How To Kick The Habit

It will be very hard at first to change this ritual of eating out everyday, breaking a habit (especially one that makes you feel good) can seem like you’re cutting away a piece of yourself, since it’s so ingrained with your schedule.

But always, always, always keep the idea in your head that you are doing this for the greater good.
