Why You’re Not A Company’s “Family” — Take Any Opportunity You Can
--
One of the most manipulating tactics a company does is convince their employees that they are part of a so-called “family.”
Most people know it’s manipulation but the fact that they even say such things do have an affect on us psychologically and this language sets up expectations that a soulless corporation could never be capable of fulfilling.
Here are a few reasons why you’re not part of a family at your job…
A Business Will Let You Go Without A Second’s Notice
Not many people in families give up on their family members so easily without giving them many chances to shape up and get their act together.
Usually if you can’t get the hang of your job within a certain amount of time, the company will drop you like a sack of potatoes.
Makes sense when your only goal is money and you see your employees as cogs in a machine.
If you act up, you won’t last a long time there.
Real families have members that are a handful but we love them anyway, when a company has an employee that is a handful, his days are numbered.
Now all this is common sense, but people are still shocked when they lose their job and have to eliminate a big part of their lives.
After all they were told they were family.
You Are Not Your Khakis
The problem with the over-personalization of the employer with their employees is that the closeness leads the employee to believe that the relationship is a true friendship.
The truth is, that friendship ends once you clock out.
It’s rare when an employer actually cares on a personal level with their employees.
It can be common in small operations, but if you are working for a giant conglomerate, then these managers see so much employee turnover that they know not to develop bonds with them.
Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the employee, especially those that are new to the workforce.
